Takeaway
A healthful plant-based diet is associated with a lower risk of total stoke risk, with no stroke-related harm from a vegetarian diet with less than 1 serving of meat or fish per month.
Why this matters
Previous studies on plant-based diets have not incorporated the quality of the diet into analyses; this study indicates that a diet of high quality plant foods, without the entire exclusion of animal-based foods, has reduced stroke risk.
